Hi, I'm Chris — the creator of filmfestfix, and a big fan of Berlinale!

As a software engineer, I've been building this technology since 2022 to plan my visits to Berlinale. For example, turning a shortlist of 41 films with 109 screenings into a personalised schedule of 12 films, at times and places most convenient to me:

After: a manageable, fully personalised schedule

This automatically calculated, personalised schedule takes into account:

  • my shortlist of films (manually selected by me from over 400 films)
  • my preferences within that shortlist (certain films are a must-see)
  • when and where each film is being shown (usually 3–5 screenings per film)
  • my availability (I work a 9–5 job, so can't attend daytime screenings)
  • how far each cinema is from my home
  • how many films I want to see during the festival
  • how many films I want to see per day
  • travel time between cinemas, if attending multiple films in one day
  • …and more!

This has saved me a massive amount of time and stress trying to figure out which films I can possibly see, given all of these different variables.

The general plan is to have a one-time charge to use this tool (not a subscription!), giving you access to all the various features, and letting you generate and update schedules as many times as you need during the entire film festival.
There will also be a free version with less customisation, perhaps targeted at more casual Berlinale fans, who are only interested in a certain genre of film, for example.
